This article explains how Stripe Radar helps protect against fraud in online payments processed via Stripe, which options are available, and what to consider when using advanced fraud protection features.
Overview
Stripe Radar is Stripe’s built-in fraud prevention tool for card payments. It uses machine learning to detect suspicious payment behaviour and helps block or review potentially fraudulent transactions in real time.
All Stripe accounts include a basic version of Stripe Radar by default. Organisations can optionally upgrade to paid versions for more advanced fraud control and monitoring.
Using Stripe Radar helps reduce fraud risk and protect organisations from financial loss.
How Stripe Radar works
Stripe Radar analyses each payment using:
Machine learning models trained on millions of transactions worldwide
Behavioural signals and risk patterns
Configurable rules and block lists (depending on the plan)
Suspicious payments can be:
Automatically blocked, or
Flagged for manual review
Stripe Radar options
Basic Stripe Radar (included)

Radar for Fraud Teams (paid)
Stripe also offers paid Radar plans, such as Radar for Fraud Teams, with advanced features.
These may include:
Custom fraud rules
Detailed risk scores

Deeper insights into fraud patterns
This option is suitable for organisations with higher transaction volumes or specific fraud prevention requirements.
