RaiseNow touchpoints use a standardized set of salutation values. Though salutation labels can be adjusted according to customer preferences and language, RaiseNow will always set one of the following values in the corresponding record on the RaiseNow platform:
"mx"
"mr"
"ms"
"other"
"family"
"none"
In Salesforce you can configure valid salutation values according to the requirements of your organisation. While some customers use generic salutation values for all languages, handling translations in communication templates, other customers set language specific translations directly in Salesforce on the contact.
During the on-boarding process RaiseNow offers a salutation map that allows you to map RaiseNow values according to the requriements of your organisation. You must configure the salutation map according to the picklists defined in your Salesforce Org for the salutation field on the contact object. The RaiseNow values must be assigned to valid API Names for the Salutation field.
Note that currently this picklist is editable through the Salesforce classic user interface only. Go to Setup -> Customize -> Contacts -> Fields: Edit Salutation
If RaiseNow processes a donation records with an unmapped salutation value, you will encounter a message like the following in the business process monitor and the donation will not be transferred to Salesforce:
Could not map salutation value for key "lt.mr
This message means that the salutation value "mr" is not mapped for the language Italian. In this case you need to visit self-onboarding and configure the salutation map in the Salesforce configuration step. Afterwards you will be able to retransfer the business process.
A note on custom touchpoints
Various customers and partners have implemented touchpoint solutions based on the RaiseNow API. Please be aware that the above definition of valid salutation values is a convention adhered to by all RaiseNow touchpoints but not enforced on API level. In other words, if you implement a custom touchpoint solution based on the RaiseNow API and you intend to use the RaiseNow integration for Salesforce, your custom solution must not set salutation values other than the supported values:
"mx","mr","ms","other","family","none"
