This article explains what happens to PayPal subscriptions created in RaiseNow Manager when your account moves to RaiseNow Hub. It covers how these legacy subscriptions are managed and which actions remain available.
Overview
PayPal subscriptions created in RaiseNow Manager use an older PayPal integration. With these subscriptions, PayPal manages the billing plan, including the donation amount, billing schedule and when each payment is charged.
When these subscriptions are migrated to RaiseNow Hub, they remain on this legacy PayPal integration. This allows you to continue to see them alongside your other subscriptions in RaiseNow Hub.
The migration does not introduce any new limitations. The same management options and restrictions already applied in RaiseNow Manager because PayPal manages the billing plan.
What you can do with legacy PayPal subscriptions
In RaiseNow Hub, you can:
- View subscriptions and payments. Migrated subscriptions and their payments are visible alongside your other subscriptions and payments.
- Cancel a subscription. You can cancel a legacy PayPal subscription in RaiseNow Hub. Supporters can also cancel it directly through PayPal.
What you cannot do
Because PayPal manages the billing plan for these subscriptions, you cannot:
- change the donation amount
- change the donation frequency
- pause and resume the subscription
These limitations are already applied in RaiseNow Manager and do not change as part of the migration.
If a supporter wants to change their amount or frequency, please do this in the PayPal dashboard. Alternatively, offer to create a new subscription either on PayPal or using the other payment options available to your donors and supporters.
Identify legacy PayPal subscriptions in RaiseNow Hub
Legacy PayPal subscriptions appear as PayPal in RaiseNow Hub, just like subscriptions using the current PayPal integration.
You can distinguish between them using the Payment provider value:
| Integration | Provider value |
| PayPal Legacy API integration | paypal_v1 |
| Hub PayPal integration | paypal |
To identify payments from legacy PayPal subscriptions directly in RaiseNow Hub:
- Go to Donations & Payments.
- Open the column settings.
- Add Payment provider as a column.
- Payments from legacy PayPal subscriptions are shown with the value paypal_v1.
You can also include Payment provider when exporting transaction data and use paypal_v1 to identify payments from the legacy integration.
