In contrast to other payment methods, the charge of a donation subscription with Paypal is not initiated by RaiseNow directly but by Paypal. This has multiple consequences.
Forecast next charge date
With a Paypal subscription the prediction of the next charge date in the RaiseNow Manager is only assumed. We can state with a high probability when the subscription is charged next, however the charge itself will be handled by Paypal and is therefore out of our influence.
Failed Charges
Unfortunately we only receive from Paypal the information if a subscription has been successfully charged. If a charge fails, Paypal does not inform RaiseNow.
Due to this there will be no sign of failed Paypal subscription charges in the RaiseNow Manager and there will also be no email notification from RaiseNow informing the donor about the failed charge. Depending on the settings of the Paypal account from the donor they will receive a notification from Paypal directly.
In general Paypal will try to charge the subscription again for three times and after three unsuccessful attempts cancel the subscription. RaiseNow will be informed about the cancellation of the subscription and deactivate the subscription in the RaiseNow Manager as well.
Please take notice! There is the possibility that in the settings of the Paypal account from the donor it is configured that the subscription will not be cancelled after three failed attempts, but return to the normal charge cycle. In this case the subscription will simply continue in the RaiseNow Manager as well. Please find more info on Paypal charge here
